Action PC games used to be simple back in the days of Pong on the Commodore 64. However, they have greatly evolved since then into games where quick reflexes, high finger dexterity, and precision timing is needed in order to win. Action games cover a wide range of PC computer games including subsets such as adventure, fighting, and shooter games.
Action shooter games are those that fit into this genre that includes using a wide assortment of weapons that are anything from guns and missiles, to hunting rifles depending on what type of action and shooter games you are playing.
There are two types of action shooter games, those that are first person shooting games and those that are third person shooter games depending on the angle of the camera. Some games, such as Halo for the PC, actually allow you to switch between both viewpoints as the technology behind videogames has become much more advanced.
Another new developing genre of action and shooter games are multiplayer first person shooter games in which massive amounts of people can compete against each other online on the PC. This is very common now for Halo and Doom which despite being an older shooter game still has a massive amount of players online. Currently, War of the Worlds is also a very popular multiplayer online PC game as well.
Other subgenres of action and shooter games also include tactical shooters, shoot em’up (also known as shmup) and many other subsets that can fall into various categories depending on the user’s own personal viewpoints.
